Privacy Policy

Aide — Customizable AI Assistant
Effective date: April 13, 2026

We take your privacy seriously. Please read this Privacy Policy to learn how we treat your personal data regarding the Aide Services. By using or accessing our Services in any manner, you acknowledge that you accept the practices and policies outlined below, and you hereby consent that we will collect, use and disclose your information as described in this Privacy Policy.

Remember that your use of our Services is at all times subject to our Terms of Service, which incorporates this Privacy Policy. Any terms we use in this Policy without defining them have the definitions given to them in the Terms of Service.

As we continually work to improve our Services, we may need to change this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will alert you of material changes by placing a notice on our website, by sending you an email and/or by some other means. Please note that if you've opted not to receive legal notice emails from us (or you haven't provided us with your email address), those legal notices will still govern your use of the Services, and you are still responsible for reading and understanding them. If you use the Services after any changes to the Privacy Policy have been posted, that means you agree to all of the changes.

What This Privacy Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy covers how we treat Personal Data that we gather when you access or use our Services. "Personal Data" means any information that identifies or relates to a particular individual and also includes information referred to as "personally identifiable information" or "personal information" or "sensitive personal information" under applicable data privacy laws, rules or regulations. This Privacy Policy does not cover the practices of companies we don't own or control or people we don't manage.

How Aide Works — The BYOK Model

Aide is a bring-your-own-key (BYOK) AI assistant. This means:

Aide does not operate intermediary servers that process your conversations. Your data flows directly between your device and the third-party services you configure.

Categories of Personal Data We Collect

This chart details the categories of Personal Data that we may collect or may have collected about you:

Category of Personal Data (and Examples) Categories of Third Parties With Whom We Disclose this Personal Data
Device/IP Data such as device ID, device model, operating system version, app version, and IP address (collected via Firebase).
  • Service Providers (Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics)
Commercial Data such as Pro upgrade purchase status.
  • Service Providers (Google Play Billing)
App Analytics such as anonymous usage funnels (e.g., onboarding completion, first message sent), crash reports (stack traces, device info). No message content or API keys are included.
  • Service Providers (Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics)
User-Provided Content such as messages, photos, files, and voice input that you choose to send through the app. This data is sent directly to your configured AI provider — not to Aide.
  • AI Providers you configure (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI, self-hosted endpoints)
  • Web Search Providers you configure (e.g., DuckDuckGo, Brave Search, Tavily)
Contact Information such as email address, if you voluntarily contact us for support.
  • Service Providers

On-Device Data

The following data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to Aide or Testcode, Inc.:

Microphone & Voice

Aide requests microphone access for optional voice input (a Pro feature). Audio is processed on-device using speech recognition. The resulting text is handled the same as typed messages. Aide does not record, store, or transmit raw audio.

Camera & Photos

Aide can access your camera or photo gallery for photo attachments (a Pro feature). Images are processed locally on your device (resized and encoded) and sent directly to your configured AI provider as part of your conversation. Aide does not upload images to its own servers.

Location

Aide may request coarse or fine location access to provide location-aware context to your AI assistant (e.g., asking about nearby places or weather). Location data is sent to your configured AI provider only when you make a location-relevant request. Location data is not stored by Aide, not sent to analytics, and not shared with any other party.

Contacts

Aide may request read access to your contacts to resolve names to phone numbers when performing device actions such as sending SMS or placing calls. Contact data stays on your device and is used only for local intent resolution. It is not transmitted to Aide, analytics services, or any third party.

Device Actions

With Pro, Aide can perform device actions on your behalf, including sending SMS, creating calendar events, setting alarms, making phone calls, starting navigation, and more. Every action with side effects requires your explicit confirmation via a dialog before it executes. Aide does not store records of these actions.

Web Search

With Pro, Aide can perform web searches using a backend you configure: DuckDuckGo (default, no API key required), Brave Search, or Tavily. Only the search query is sent to the search provider. Search results are cached in memory during your session and are not persisted.

Screen Context

With Pro, Aide can capture the contents of your current screen to provide context to your AI assistant. Screen content is sent directly to your configured AI provider as part of the conversation. It is never sent to Aide, analytics, or any other party.

Third-Party AI Providers

When you send a message, it is transmitted directly to the AI provider you configured with your own API key. Aide has no control over how those providers handle your data. Please review their privacy policies:

If you use a self-hosted or third-party OpenAI-compatible endpoint (e.g., Ollama, LM Studio), its privacy practices are governed by that service or your own infrastructure.

Analytics & Crash Reporting

Aide uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous usage data and crash reports. This data includes:

This data does not include your message content, API keys, conversation history, or any personally identifiable information.

Pro users can opt out of analytics and crash reporting entirely in the app's Privacy settings.

Data Security

We seek to protect your Personal Data from unauthorized access, use and disclosure using appropriate physical, technical, organizational and administrative security measures based on the type of Personal Data and how we are processing that data. In addition, Aide encrypts API keys on-device using AES-256-GCM via the Android Keystore. You should also help protect your data by keeping your device secure and limiting access to your device. Although we work to protect the security of your data, please be aware that no method of transmitting data over the internet or storing data is completely secure.

Data Retention

We retain Personal Data about you for as long as necessary to provide you with our Services or to perform our business or commercial purposes for collecting your Personal Data. When establishing a retention period for specific categories of data, we consider who we collected the data from, our need for the Personal Data, why we collected the Personal Data, and the sensitivity of the Personal Data. In some cases we retain Personal Data for longer, if doing so is necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes or collect fees owed, or is otherwise permitted or required by applicable law. We may further retain information in an anonymous or aggregated form where that information would not identify you personally.

Note that conversations and messages stored locally on your device are under your control. You may delete them at any time within the app.

Personal Data of Children

We do not knowingly collect or solicit Personal Data from children under 16 years of age. If you are a child under the age of 16, please do not attempt to use the Services or send us any Personal Data. If we learn we have collected Personal Data from a child under 16 years of age, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that a child under 16 years of age may have provided Personal Data to us, please contact us at support@aideassistant.com.
